Dawes Lightening project. Not too much to do.

Here is a nice Dawes Lightening from circa 1980 picked up from eBay for not too much. Needs pedals and new tyres to be a runner, but I plan to completly strip, clean, polish and rebuild as it is going to be my brother-in-laws main ride as he has been looking enviously at my Carlton and Romani! :D

Can't find the serial number. There is a number on the bottom bracket, but only four digits (should be five from what I have read) and nothing on the dropouts or seat post? :?

531 frame and a mix of mid-quality running gear, (Suntour VX, Galli brakes) so should be a nice runner when finshed.

Looks like a nice easy project.

Be sure to sort those brake lever/ bar positioning on the rebuild, a new saddle + seatpost would be a good addition as would a matching wheelset (probably be able to source a near match for the rear wheel).

Not exactly a build thread, as here is the finished item!

A little more work was required than I initially thought as the bars were bent out of shape and I could not get the brake levers to come up looking good so in the end I put together a new bar, tape, stem, levers and hoods front end. New front wheel (Mavic MA2) brake cables and outers, new gear outers and a new chain plus decent used tyres completed the refresh as well of course as a complete strip, clean, polish, lube and re-build.

Very happy with the result.

What a nice looking bike, I really like the green to green paint.

Looking much better than it did, although the seat still looks a little sofa like, not that anyone can see it when you riding, so what the heck.
