I first saw a Bob Jackson in the flesh on a visit to my brothers in the city of Leeds back in 1999. It was love -- certainly lust -- at first site but I had no cash for one at the time (broke student). Now, some 13 years later, I finally have a BJ of my own for my 34th Birthday! I ordered it on the 11th September and it came to my door on the 5th October (this morning) so not a bad turnaround (they told me it'll be 1 month because the off-the-peg frames sell like hot cakes.)

I chose the off-the-peg 'Olympus' road racing model for £485 in size 21.5 inches (55cm centre-top) which is my ideal size - I really didn't need to pay £100's extra for a custom size. Tubing is Reynolds 631 oversize, colour is Viola Chiaro (light purple) metallic with red lug lining and transfers. The guys at Bob Jackson were very helpful, I actually initially ordered it in a darker purple - 'Viola', but after seeing a BJ of this colour on the web it was much more bluer than I would of liked, so they kindly changed the colour for me to 'Viola Chiaro' after a phonecall on the 16th September (5 days after I had placed the order). They also phoned me on the day they shipped it out... so no painful waiting on delivery.

Groupset will be an all modern affair in black components: an all-black microSHIFT 'Centos' is the groupset (STI levers, front and rear mechs). I chose this for it's lightweight and good value (lighter than 105 but at more than half the price). The rest is stuff from Ambrosio (compact chainset), Planet-X (wheels, superlight brake calipers, seatpost), ITM (stem), Nitto (bars), KMC (chain) and a Shimano 105 12-27 10 speed cassette. Took these pictures on a dull day in north Leicestershire this morning. More or less have everything in place, just need to put it together and get that fork steerer cut. More pictures to come as the build progresses...

Must resist the birthday BJ joke... ;)

Lovely frame though, always planned on getting a Bob myself but never got round to it.

NICE!

FWIW I had my wife's Carlton resprayed in that colour earlier this year, not by BJ though, by Dave Yates.

Photos don't do the colour justice, I find, in real life it seems to glow!

very nice. I saw their sample frames in the shop yesterday, they look terrific and what great value too :D

That's gorgeous - like you say there's not much point shelling out for a custom fit when the off the peg fits you in the first place. I think a frame like that, ordered new and painted as you want it, has to be the ultimate, regardless of the brand.

I got back into cycling a couple of years ago after 20 years on motorbikes and my first question was "how much is a Colnago Master?" I was (not pleasantly) surprised when I found out, and even less surprised when I was told they only came in three colours... So I reckon you've done well there. Look forward to seeing it built up.
