I bought this eariler in tthe year off e-bay. Carrera was not one of my preferred brands, but it only cost £87 posted and has a 531 (main tubes only I think) frame, a full (white) RX100 groupset and the previous owner had upgraded it to Cinelli bars and stem. I put on new Schwalbe Blizzard Sport 23 tyres, new bar tape, 2 new bottle cages and a Selle Italia ally railed saddle...total cost £122. It does the job, though the early 90s paint job is an aqcuired taste!

So the next project is going to be a little big one....a build this time...so looking for a 19" road frame to build up for my son before he outgrows the 24" wheeled machine he is riding now......not looking for anything too flashy 501/531/cromo.... :D

Re:

This is an old and long forgotten thread! I still have this though, it is now my winter bike.

Last winter I fitted a 38t chainring in place of the 42t though, and swapped the 13-23 cassette for a more sensible 12-28. This has reduced the incidence of oxygen debt on the big hills! I also spent what seemed like an eternity fitting Crud Raceguards. They are good now, but they took some experimentation and modification to get them to fit.
This year, having got used to Sti shifters on my summer bike I thought I would convert this one. It seemed like a good time to deal with the over long stem and slightly too narrow bars too. So thanks to some RB karma a pair of RSX 7 speed Sti's have arrived and been soaked in all sorts of things to get them clicking through nicely. They are fitted to a lovely pair of ITM Super Itallia bars in 42cm width, paired with an ITM 400 (I think) stem. Feels better and still looks right. Cables and tape are still on the to do list though......

I haven't decided whether to swap that inline seatpost back to a layback one, I am not sure if it looks right.

Re:

Test rode this this morning. 10 miles in the gloom. I have always liked this bike, which is why I still have it, and it much improved by having the right width bars and a shorter stem. I still like the look and simplicity of d/t levers but the Sti levers make it just that little bit easier to live with!
