Hello all, here's a few pics of my Dawes Renown. I bought it new in 1982 (to replace a 26" wheel Carlton Corsa) with pocket money and a little of Mom and Dad's money too. It was well used for the 1st 10 years of its life, everything from general teenage reprobating, commuting and the odd club race/tt. Having spent the last 20 years in sheds and garages, i've woken it up with a wash, polish and lube. Apart from the tyres, its totally original. I was suprised how fast and tight it felt compared to the MTBs i've ridden more recently. The only thing that needed doing was tightening the crank. The brakes are pretty weak so i'll be replacing the cables and blocks and then riding it every week. Hope you like this pics:

That's a very handsome bike, and it's great that you bought it new and are taking care of it. I'll be interested to hear how you find the brakes after replacing the cables and brake blocks.

Bloomin 'eck, kilgore, that's in some nick! Cracker. Looks like they're the classic Weinmann A124 rims? On checking before replying I notice there were two concave
rim width specs - the 124 and a wider 129. In '82 I'd a pair of the narrow ones - used to stick 19mm Vredestein tyres on 'em and use for the same stuff (club
training runs and general bombin through to meet pals, girls etc ) until a car T-boned the rear... up onto the bonnet, slide... and dunk... :roll: . Good rims, tho,
and snapped up quick nowadays when offered. Incidentally, (and no doubt a daft question) does anybody still make concave rims?

I had one of these new at about the same time but in green. Lovely bike until some b******d stole it! Can you remember how much you paid for it?
