That's a great bike and a good story - any chance of a close-up of the stopwatch?! Right up my street, that! Was using a stopwatch on the bars common back in the day?

Hi,

Thanks for the comments, I'd like to think I'll be using it again but need to get myself a bit fitter beforehand...the last time I did actually use it properly was a charity ride from London to Paris but that was a few years back now (when lairy bar tape was all the go ..lol!)

Yes the stopwatch on the bars was a reasonably common thing to have at the time..I lost one through vibrations working it loose from the clip so that's the reason in the pic below that there is old tape around the clip "fingers"

I've got a whole load of newspaper cuttings from time trial results and road race results that I must find...also a team time trial pic from back then too..again I need to find that

Anyhow here's a closer shot of the stopwatch in place..

Not just any old stopwatch either I see, but a Heuer! Very nice indeed! Many thanks for that. 8) So much classier than a digital computer!

I've haven't got any stopwatches but I do have a clock from a MiG fighter. Might try bolting that onto the bars of one of my bikes - I could have splits as well as elapsed time...

Couldn't bring myself to attach a stopwatch to the bars when I TT'd back in the 70's.........like wearing a king of the mountains jersey and walking up a hill LOL

Holy wow!
You've done a top job on that.
The fact that the bikes history is your history makes me very jealous.

The strap might fit better in the hole on the quill :)
