Mick Nash Lands End to John O'Groats 531 Peugeot - FIN!

A restoration I'm working on for my friend's father, the retired Sgt. Mick Nash who along with his riding partner Cpl. Spence Parker broke the Land's End to John O'Groats time trial record on this bike in 1979, smashing the record set by the previous holder Jimmy Saville... :shock:

Bit of a strange end-to-end record? The 'proper' record is -

'The official Road Records Association record for rider on a conventional bicycle is 44 hours, 4 minutes and 20 seconds, set by Gethin Butler in 2001.'

Andy Wilkinson has done it 3 hrs quicker - on a recumbent.

I'm not detracting from the effort involved in doing it, I know I wouldn't!

I think they only held the record for about 2 weeks - this was back in 1979 remember! It garnered them a little local press, some drinks in the mess and an appearance on Pebble Mill though

Good effort that, well inside 2 days. The first inside 2 day ride was Dick Poole (a noted long distance time trialist of the day) in 1965 with 47hr 46min 35sec and it took 14 years for Paul Carbutt to beat it with 47h 23m 1s, not a great margin and he rode 13 miles less due to the Forth Road Bridge being built in the interim, showing the quality of Dick's ride.

These rides are the 'official' ones done under the conditions of the Road Records Association.

Get the bike back into condition - and have a go yourself

We are considering something along those lines, but with a fast rider / team... perhaps a charity fundraiser!

RAF Brampton is about to disappear under houses...

I moved from RAF Brampton (as a very small snotty child) when my parents finished there in 1978.

Absolutely stunning lovely rebuild, think we could be looking at a potential BOTM winner here
