Hi guys
Here is my first attempt at a retro fixie
c1954 Carlton
Put this together today to cut the boredom of xmas
Spent most of the day in the garage building my ride
Never ridden fixie, but this is my chance to experience what some say is the best way to ride a bike,we'll see.

Based on a 1954 Carlton
42/19 for the North Wales hills
Maybe someone could tell me what model Carlton it is?
Some nice lugs.

Carlton

Thanks for the info Shaun
I purchased this some 3-4 mths ago,a nice guy from lowestoft.
I basically stripped the components and used mine, the frame/forks were powder coated red by the gentleman.
I'm thinking of stripping the paint and maybe re-finish!!!
But then again it's great for the winter training rides, although iv'e only ridden it a few 100yds,quite scary to start with.
A boxing day fixie ride looms, but a bit wary of how it goes.
We'll see how it goes, quite looking foward to it.

Very thankful for the link, was the Carlton Continental a mid or high range?
It is very light

Yes i have some clips and straps to fit.
I was thinking of clipless, keo lightweight pedals.
But thinking about it,maybe not a good idea, bit scary trying to unclip them.

If you are not used to riding a fixed I'd be tempted to stick a back brake on :D

Christophe would look nice :)

Well guys 1st ever ride fixed!!!!!
Did i like it,enjoy it??
I bloody loved it,amazing feeling, took a while to get use to no freewheel, couple of hairy moments downhill from our little village here in North Wales, quite steep.
The Carlton was a fantastic ride.Really responsive and lightweight.
Couple of times i realised that i couldn't freewheel, off the pedals and slow down.
Once i got the knack of slowing down brakeless or with front brake! it was great.

Rode a total of 12 miles, but the last 3 miles home was really hard uphill all the way.the gearing of 42x19 was hard up our hills, some gradients 6-10% a real struggle in the end.
But made it,i know now why the comments of being as one with the bike is so true.
Cannot wait to go for another spin.

Cheers folks
A very happy fixie
