S prefix on the number dates the frame to 1965.

no decision on decals yet and headtube badge going on over weekend now i have found rivet gun .

i can confirm its 1965 as well , just started using it for non icy commutes at moment and apart from pedal falling off on first return journey and having to change crank arm all ok now and going well .

gearing ok as well on 27" wheels with a 52 front chain ring and 17 rear ideal for my fairly flat commute .

only other problem is seat post id as mo i am using foil shim to get it tight

So you don't know what size it is or you can't find the right size?

Sometimes shims have the sizes stamped into them, seatpost definitely should. If you have any lying around just check and see if any fit, or simply measure the tube

have tried loads and one i think 26.6 way to big yet the 26.4 is way to sloppy and it does not tighten up enough , so have shimmed it for time being , please note measurments quoted are from memorey so coukd br wrong sizes quoted !!

Is your memory bad? ;)

You could always go to a LBS and ask them to tell you. Very simple solution :D

Isn't there somewhere where you can have them made? Surely there must be someone who can do that

Headbadges are the ultimate finishing touch. They do come up on evilbay from time to time.

The earlier thick gauge brass ones are best.
