Retro Newbie
E G BATES
I thought you might like a picture of my 1964 E G Bates racing bike
I used to race on it as a teenager with Coventry Cycling Club
It is completely original except replacement toe clips and a tub
I polished it up last summer and hand painted the frame
The bike rides beautifully and is very fast and responsive
It only weighs about 21lbs which is pretty light for the time
I can send more photos if you wish

Probably becuase he hasn't posted enough!

I had to post 10 times'ish before I could post pictures and links. :p

[ Captain Mainwarring Mode ] I knew that! Well done on spotting my deliberate mistake. [ /Captain Mainwarring Mode ]

It's five posts before you can add images. Think you can add attachments with 1.

Do you have the frame number as I have a very similar machine and I'd like to see where my number fits so I can rough guess the year.

A real beauty! Pics like this are a great resource for other people who are restoring bikes from the era (and who maybe weren't riding yet!). b

Hi Chambo
The number 2149 is stamped on the rear dropout
I bought the frame nearly new in 1963 or 4 from an older rider in my club
He had it built but did not like it
Most of the equipment was secondhand as I was a poor schoolkid!
Hope this helps
Stephen
