Raleigh 753 SB7191 Malcolm Elliot's Team Weinmann New ud-P3

Re: Raleigh 753 SB7191 Malcolm Elliot's - Team Weinmann

Frame has now gone off Mark at MRCreations to be painted. Just having the Blue and Pearl white done this time rather than full paint job.

As its a team ( least we think it is ) I decided to do it exactly as Raleigh did so paint and decals over the top. Del at Delcalsigns is doing the decals for me.

In the mean time I've had a few bits arrive, nice pair of team issue / use Weinmann Carrera 28H tub rims

Re: Raleigh 753 SB7191 Malcolm Elliot's - Team Weinmann

Also after much hunting and deliberation I've bought the gear mechs and levers.

NOS Simplex levers, so no chewed up screw heads.

A NOS SJ A222 front mech, now the team had A422's but they just aren't out there. The main difference in looks is that the A422 had polished parts so this will be going off to be polished.

And a very good used SLJ 5500 reach mech. The team used LJ 4000 again these just don't come up in good / near perfect condition.

The LJ 4000 had the unique plastic ends in black, the main problem is that as I want to ride this bike even if I found a new one the plastic may be brittle and break. So I went with the 5500 which is a better and all metal mech. I'm sending it off to have the ends anodized in black to give the look of the 4000.

Missed this thread before, looking forward to more!

Re: Raleigh 753 SB7191 Malcolm Elliot's - Team Weinmann updateP2

Frame came back today, but we are going to try again.

Its a bit to white, I know that sounds strange when talking about a blue and white bike but the old pearl paints came out more creamy. I know it would be 30 years old so would have faded as well. But unfortunately the paint produces have changed the mix again compared to the last Panasonic I had done (the last one while not as cream as a 30 year old original was more cream than this one).
We are going to try more pearl layers and see it that dumbs down the white.

Was curious as to exactly where you found them as I knew George Shaw BiTD, he passed away only recently.

Rk.

That's sad news. I hadn't heard of his passing and hadn't seen him for a year or two. He used to attend the local jumbles and I have a set of very good lights bought from him which were a bargain. RIP George.

Re: Raleigh 753 SB7191 Malcolm Elliot's - Team Weinmann updateP2

Slowly been getting the parts together for this while waiting on frame. Pretty much got all the bits for the build now.

Mailard 700 pro 28H Hubs
Ofmega crank set
Mailard 700 Pedals and correct toe clips
Ofmega Headset
Original TA bottle cage
Original Turbo saddle
Cinelli Bars

The hubs are used but with fresh decals and the cranks used but is pretty much a 10 out of 10 while the rest is NOS.

Frames due back next week, looking forward to starting the build

Also found a mint head badge, nos 753 and buold decal.

Not sure whether to use the nos decals or keep them and use copies

Completely by chance found and bought what I'm told is Malcolm's actual top.

Trusted seller so no reason not to believe
