Breathing some new life into a Ciocc/Fake Ciocc

Hi all,

I bought this bike complete in Jan 2016 - it was in appalling condition with rubbish components, stuck seatpost, stuck BB and the forks were covered in crud:

Anyway, the seatpost was at my height, and the forks were Columbus jobbies and cleaned up really well so I started to like it a bit more than I originally did! I left it in my friends shed for a bit, and then moved house. In the end I gave the frame to another mate to build up, but he didn't want it either...

Fast forward to last December and I wanted something to build up as I had a few period components spare. Got hold of the frame again and duly took a hacksaw to the stuck in FAG/SKF bottom bracket:

And dissolved the rather thick seatpost using caustic soda and water:

Gave the frame a clean up with coca cola, tin foil and wd40, fitted the original forks and a Shimano 600 headset were fitted (excuse the state of the work bench!):

And then it was ready to be built up!

Like the rescue.

Shame the seatclamp was prised apart so much. Will it go back together to tighten up ok?

Next time I recommend plumbers freeze spray for the seatpost. No paint or frame damage.

Yes, it's absolutely fine - the new seatpost bolt has helped move it back into its original shape and position!

The components I had spare are Campagnolo Triomphe/Victory mechs and shifters, a Gipiemme Azzurro crankset and some Shimano RSX brakes and Exage levers. It's my aim to get a full Campag groupset on it but for now it'll be good to just get it on the road. Wheels are 9 speed Mavic Open Pro's with Chorus 9 speed hubs.

Popped it together recently - next steps are to fit new chain and gear cables as I chucked on some used ones to get it set up with a view to taking it out for a spin over the weekend...

Cheers!

Brown Rolls arrived at home today, so that'll compliment the brown tape and Michelin amber walls that I have tucked to one side :)
