1980 Vitus 979 Duralinox «Tout Mavic» 1ère série

Completing a project that began almost three years ago to the day, I have added a 1980 Vitus 979 to my collection.

This combines the earliest version of both the 979 frame and the initial "Tout Mavic 1000 SSC" ensemble which was introduced in 1980. This includes the early examples of the rear derailleur, chainset, brakeset (made by Modolo) and the extremely rare pedals (made for Mavic by Meral).

Build up weight: 18.28 lbs.

That looks great! I would love a 979 - but you never see them in larger sizes - yours must be at least a 24" / 60cm?

She's a 59cm (c-c) and yes finding them in larger sizes, especially these early ones is.... not easy. Hence the three-year span this project entailed. Indeed, for the first time I actually collected the equally rare Mavic components before I finally got the frame and that was only about two months ago.

They made these in 60 cm and indeed even larger but 60 cm is the largest I've seen them in for real.

Nice looking machine but this Mavic rear mech are very unreliable I had one explode on me when on for a PB in a TT back in the 80’s.. they hardly keep a chain tensioned somhabe many chain derailments......but do look cool..
