Velo Schauff Grand Sport - Bent!

Found on FB Marketplace, had to go have a look based on those seat stays. Ended up buying it despite it being slightly too big for me and despite me currently "having a clear out" of bikes

Spec:

Steel Frame, Lugged, unbranded – 62cm seat tube, 57cm top tube
Brakes – Weinmann Centre Pulls
Gears – Shimano
Chainset – Nervar
Front Wheel – Shimano hub, wolber rim
Rear Wheel – unbranded
Tyres – 700 x 25c
Seat – Selle Royal
Seatpost – Selle San Marco
Stem – ITM

Thought I'd put pics on this section for future reference as there really doesn't seem to be much about on this brand online.

It will be going in the for sale section anyway as I'm trying to cut the fleet down, mainly to mtb's and touring stuff. Cost me £50 so happy for it to go to another member for the same.

EDIT - It seems the seat stays are damaged so the frame will be going to the big scrapyard in the sky

Re: Velo Schauff Grand Sport

Thanks for these pics Joe. I've found lots of images of Schauff bikes online (if this is indeed a Schauff?) but not one displays a similar seat stay arrangement. They have made some pretty good bikes over the years though - there's a Facebook group dedicated to "Vintage Schauff" machines and some of those look quite special. And, of course, many makers have played around with shaped seat stays although they simply incorporate a bit of curve amidst various (or should that be spurious?) claims of increased comfort.

I can't say I'm convinced those stays started life like that though, otherwise I'd have snapped it up at that price. BTW what does it say on the top tube? Something "sport"?

Re: Velo Schauff Grand Sport

"Grand Sport"

I'm pretty certain the stays are meant to be that way, there is no damage to the frame, both stays are curved equally, the brake sits where it should do (and the hole for the caliper is pointing in the right direction) etc

They seem an obscure home-brand in Germany and seem to offer low end stuff as well as lightweight "proper" road bikes. This is a low - mid range jobby, it feels bombproof and sprightly enough, but it isn't particularly light.

Re:

The damage on the seat stays is consistent with the paint damage.
Not too hard to whack the seat stays to somewhere near where they started.
Nothing apparently unsafe either.

Re: Velo Schauff Grand Sport

Thanks Keith. I've put a thread in the Road general section asking about whether there are any tell-tales of damage or whether they are intentionally curved. The paint chips are a good point.

Oh well....looks like i'll be breaking this one for spares!
