Good thinking. I've ordered a selection so I'll let you know how I get on. They seem to vary wildly in price, from 20p to a few quid each! I'll defo try the coke can idea if they're loose.

By the way, I bought a pair of Campagnolo Shamals, believing they were set up for an 9 speed cassette, but in fact the previous owner had been running an 8 speed campy set up. I've tried a 9 speed veloce cassette and it doesn't fit. I've already fitted a 9 speed group set on the bike. I'm hopeless when it comes to hubs. What do you think my options are?

Your options depend on the rear spacing, mine were 126mm and I run 6 speed with screw on blocks.

8 or 9 speed would be too new to match the frame.

The ferrules from SMS worked great, thanks so much.

I now need to buy a seat post. Would you know the diameter I need please?

Once I have that, I'm gonna put her together and will send you some pics...

Again, thanks so much...

That is a Montello Spezial. Not a normal Montello. Wrong Decal. Very rare by the way.

I’ve never heard that before.

Have you any reference?

I have photos of the bike before I renewed the decals.

They are not wrong they are exactly as per the original.

Strange ...never seen a "normal" Montello with chrome lugs before. Normally the Montellos with Chrome have only been special orders, I guess - mostly professional riders.

Heres a recent example of someone who offered a montello spezial frame for 200 euros!!! I had contact with him. In the end, he found out that its the frame of a 70s/80s professional & olympic rider (G. Braun, Germany). His father rode with him and got the frame. Now, he is asking 800 Euros :-D legit ...

That Spezial has been hand written on with the same marker pen that was used to write the name on the top tube.

It was never a model. If it was a model I think it would have been Italian not German.

Hand written Spezial? ...German Model? Are you sure you have knowledge about Pinarello? :-)

Of course its an italian model. Pinarello is an italian company! And the frame decals with reference to italy are pretty much to find on every model from cheap to Montello Spezial. Also, there are for example "Asolo Spezial" too, basically a regular Asolo with regular Aelle or Cromor tubing etc. and the chromed lugs, making it an Asolo Spezial. Same top tube decal!

Nothing there has been hand written, except the name of the german (olymic) team rider "Gregor Braun" on that italian (!!!) bike.

Do you need pictures of an Asolo Spezial with the exakt same top tube decal as well?

Cheers
