Thanks for the kind remarks, folks. I haven't ridden it yet - off to the Alpes next week and apart from a test ride here first. It will be christened over there with thoughts of those wonderfully fuzzy Channel 4 VHS images, Phil Liggett's enthusiastic voice and the two superheroes of the 1986 TdF! All while staring down at a pair of slowly rotating 49 year old legs!! :|

The bottles I've had forever now but I'll never use them in anger. Just for the likes of this and no doubt my next project, most probably LVC's 753 of the same year .

Hi
I was wondering if you started on the Look Hinault Equipe 753? I'm after some decals especially the head badge.

Re:

That is very beautiful.

Sadly, I suspect the closest I'll get to that is the jersey.

Question - what was the frame like before colour wise? I'm presuming from the description that it was NOS, in a different colour, and resprayed to match the BH / GL colours?

Were the lugs black originally? Trying to picture the frame without resorting to Google images - a bit like trying to complete a jigsaw puzzle without using the front of the box for reference.

Fuzzy memory of the frame, but strong memories of watching the tour with a BH and Tour obsessed family friend... :)

I'm just about to start on the '86 Tour de France 753 bike. I found an original set of the 1986 transfers in a bike shop in the USA, but the frame builder warned against using them as they are so old and will likely disintegrate and ruin the paint job. I've forwarded them to a decal specialist who's going to do his best to replicate them.

You can enquire here - ask for Hugh and say that Craig sent you...

Best of luck

Re the TVT frame - it was a plain black '86 frame with alloy lugs - never built up. A rare find indeed! I had Brian Rourke paint in a pearl silver - a nice job indeed.

Thanks, I tried Hugh before, but never heard from him after several emails. I just want to replace a damaged head badge sticker on my 753 Hinault. All the rest of the decals are original, but not in the best of condition.
