SB4933 A Reynolds 531SL frame

While the world seems to be going price crazy for repainted 753 SB frames, it is good to know that beautiful SBDU frames at excellent prices do still exist!

This is a frame that was originally red and cream but was later chromed by the SBDU in the mid 80s - the chrome is excellent! It was repainted again a few years later by Chris Marshall and the finish he has produced is excellent. It was bought from the original owner after it had just been repainted by Chris and has sat in a box since then so the paint is still fresh.

It came with a TDC/Zeus BB and Super Record Headset.

It has had a few mods over the years with a front derailleur fitting, drilled for recessed brakes and spaced to 130mm

Very Smart, Chris Marshall does a good job and is still going :). Nice to see some chrome as well. Just out of curiosity are the seat caps chrome or silver paint?

Yep, the paint is first class. The caps are chrome, but as they are flat they are a bugger to photograph as they just reflect

Thanks :). I wonder why it has no rivetted head badge? I thought they were on the TT frames only. Is the braze on front mech original? Sorry for the questions but every day is a school day as they say and don't remember it being covered on your excellent history of SBDU frames.

I phoned Chris about doing a couple of my Aende frames but does not accept boxed up frames do would mean two journeys :(

I can't see any signs that there were ever holes on the head tube so I'd expect this was always a transfer type head badge, although they normally used the foil oval TT type instead of the one on here.

The braze on mech is a later mod either by the SBDU in the mid 80s or by Chris when he painted this. According to my timeline I'd put this frame at the turn of the year between 81 and 82 and I don't see any original paint frames with these until later in 82.

I've got a newer timeline planned in my head with all the small detail like this. My current timeline just covers things like lugs, BBs, fork crowns etc but the new one will cover stops and guides, bosses, brake bridges and all the other small stuff.
