1981 SBDU Dynaflite TT Reynolds 753 Aero Tubing

A new project... A 1981 SBDU Special Build. There aren't many of these, a Dynaflite TT built with 753 Aero tubing (SBDU called this Ovoid). Ignore the current 753R transfer, as all the current frame transfers have been fitted later. I'll be fitting the correct transfers soon.

Forks are standard SBDU 753 wide oval blades with a Cinelli SC crown

The Dynaflite had to be Fillet Brazed because of the shape of the tubes - fillets formed with Silver Solder and with reinforcements add under the tube join.

Head tube has a reinforcement ring at the base to stop the tube spreading.

The seat stays are flattened and ultra thin at the rear ends.

The seat stays are fastened to small reinforcements directly on the back of the seat tube.

Trying to show the width of the seat tube is difficult - the seat tube is the same width as the clement seta tub on the rear wheel.

This frame has been built specifically for TT with a single rear gear lever boss and no front mech braze on fitting - so it will need to be a single chain ring build.

Nope, never seen one of those before :). Every day is a school day lol

Thanks for the pics and info.

The story is that only a couple of dozen were ever made, probably as they were too complex and expensive. I've seen one in Raleigh's 1982 brochure and one in a 2007 Cycling Plus article about the SBDU - this is the first actual Dynaflite I've ever seen in the flesh.

Nice looking & rare frame...not sold on the color but should be a fine build I would say :)

Yes, the colour hits you in the face but it is growing on me. The paint is actually excellent quality and only has a few chips around the dropouts and top of seat tube, but overall, it's solid. I'm hoping the correct SBDU frame transfers will help.

I'm looking for ideas on what to build it with, I'm normally fine with road bikes and kit but not TT. This has been built previously with Campag kit - they are shown in the SBDU brochure with a Super Record headset.

Re:

I am so glad to see this frameset I was beginning to think I the whole 753 Dynaflite thing was a myth, sure is a beautiful frame though

Yep, the first aero Shimano would do nicely. Is that the set with no outer for the rear mech, oversized pedal threads and bars / stem that sell for the same price as a Banksy mural ? :)

Re:

That's the one I had my TT bike decked out with it lovely stuff, unfortunately very difficult to fit to this frame as the rear mech needs over the BB cable routing to work properly...................

Thinking inside the box:- Huret jubilee rear mech and stronlight 107 chainset......................

Outside the box:- Ofmega mistral rear mech and chainset or even cambio rino........................
