Right come on now, crowdsourcing, mobile phone apps, 21st century social media. ..

There must be someone out there with the nouse to get a cheaper/more effective auction/sale site off the ground for cycling specific kit than eBay?

10% fees and nearly 4% on everything paypal including postage!

Robbery, by the daylight hours that is.

I'd be happy to help out with any strategy planning for a Kickstarter
project. There's money (and better service) in niche you know. ...

See me after lessons.

Totally agree, but aren't that is what forum sales are for.
i've just sold a lot of stuff on ebay, some went way too cheap, PP fees etc are not helping either.

Unfortunately there are not enough users of forums to be competitive with eBay.

What's needed is a flawless mobile app that's easily distributable and has effective feedback and repping components built in. Obviously a better/cheaper payment system than the Devils own paypal is required, but that's not rocket science with the plethora of micro payment services out there.

It would need to be a from scratch application. I work in a marketing/advertising agency. To get something like this launched would be a reasonably cheap affair as word of mouth among a relatively small community would be rapid and very effective.

I think 5% fees and a free to sellers payment system would be infinitely more attractive than what we have now.

The development of an app like this (I've worked on half a dozen) would be in the region of 75-100k

I've always thought that the serious competition to corporate hegemonies like eBay would come from niche start ups. One niche won't hurt them. But 500 multi genre niche apps would. The e commerce world is fragmenting into more and more specific and specialist providers. That's plain to see.

I dont see any reason why we couldn't, given the high calibre of mobile app designers in the UK, lead that charge for a cycling specific digital sales arena.

I'm talking about something much more sophisticated and app store/android market compatible, with a credible and cheaper payment option than paypal.

Thanks for the PMs. I'll be in touch shortly.
