HALFORDS APPOLLO RETRO £8.50.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/old-retro-bicycle ... freshZtrue.

Got this bike for the bargain price of £8.50, the other day on the bay, £5 petrol to nearby Redditch and collected her this Sunday. Wire wool £6, oil £1, two new tubes £6 which i already had and 10 hours hard work sweat and blisters.

In my frenzy to get this bike shiny I forgot to take before pictures, so you will just have to imagine what that chrome looked like before 10 hours of wire wool and oil, the guy told me it had sat 12 months under a tarp and as all of the unpainted metal is chrome, apart from the stem there was a lot of surface rust.

I did have big plans to change this and that, but as she started to come up something lovely the whole point became not to spend anything on here at all, it would seem silly also I think, to put a £30 saddle £40 wheels etc on a bike costing £8.50, everything has been disassembled clean greased and put back together, apart from one stubborn pedal which knackered my pedal spanner and bottom bracket, coz its so primitive looking I would not know where to start, if anyone knows about these things and they assure me they are simple I would like to clean and re-grease.
Frame has been cleaned and turtle waxed.

All evil thoughts to sell have now gone, though I think she’s well worth £50 -60 if not more.

The wife had a quick go which turned into a long go, and then said can we keep her, so we are.

whoever said also it makes you smile just riding it was right, have ridden other sprung saddles without amazement, but I thinks its the riding position on this bike as you can feel each side of this saddle o up and down with each cheek as you pedal, sort of massaging you arse as you go, it really is quite strange but nice, lol The riding position is also really comfy and natural, if not to practical for sharp cornering and its quite big gear to push I think, not a bike for going up hills at all. But well happy

so here she is, latest addition to the family and looks like she will be staying for a while, perfect for going to the corner shop and not having to worry about it being nicked while inside, or for riding beside the three year old In his tractor, or for just getting on and riding In what ever clothes your wearing and tootling up and down. Such fun
