I picked this frame up for 30 quid on STW due to slight bendage issues on the r/h chainstay. Also, it's one of the few 29'ers around that take rim brakes.

Decided to build with the best of my spare bits not being used on other builds.

Worked out well- looks like a monster truck but weighs about 23lbs :-)

Frame: Gary Fisher X-Caliber 29" size med

Fork: Surly Karate Monkey

Headset: Hope
Stem: Syncros
Handlebar: Titec
Grips: Clear


Brakes: Magura HS33


Shifters: Sram Plasma gripshifts NOS
Front Derailleur: Deore LX
Rear Derailleur: Sram Plasma NOS
Cassette: Sram PG970 11-34
Chain: Sram PC59
Cranks: Ritchey 4-bolt compact
Chainrings: LX
Bottom Bracket: LX Octalink
Pedals: SPD


Rims: Ritchey OCR (road rims!)
Hubs: STM NOS
Spokes: DT Stainless
Tyres: Bontrager

Saddle: WTB Team SST
Seatpost: Bontrager
Seatpost Binder: Hope

I would put the shifters otherwise (and the only right way in my eyes). Brake levers do need to lay above them, not onder them.

BITD we always mounted em above the brake levers for easier cable adjustment on the fly :-)
