Retrun of the Darkside! (Completed 21.2lbs!)

When I was a kid the Spooky Darkside was the most coveted bike on my radar. Within the last few years Spooky has re-opened their doors and started producing bikes again. Mickey who used to work there is the owner now and keeping it real. He is even somewhere on RetroBike.

Recently I purchased one of his re-issued, if you will, Spooky Darkside frames. The geometry is slightly enhanced and it seems like the frame is more than improved. There is some sort of bi-ovalized top tube, extra welded headtube reinforcement, and very light weight. The frame alone weighs just under 3 pounds. I was able to visit the new Spooky shop this past spring and test ride one of these with Mickey. I was impressed. I also found out that he is sourcing his tubes from the same U.S. distributer that used to supply Cannondale with all the tubes for their high end, made in America frames (C'dale now gets it's tubes overseas but still manufactures them in the U.S.). So this bike is true to it's roots, being 100% American designed and made.

NEW!!! I wheeled, dealed, and traded my stable away complete this build. I have set it up with a compliment of parts that I could be happy with for years. A few small parts subject to change but this is pretty much how it is going to stay!

Took it for it's first ride this afternoon. Damn! It begs to be hammered and thrown through the turns. Can't wait to get some gears on this thing so I can make it my primary bike!

Hehe, speaking of OG stickers I could use some Darkside ones Mickey.

I don't do model name stickers any more... I have old Diecut Darkside stickes, but only in black... and well, they won't stick too well at all...

The frame didn't have any stickers on it when I got it. It came with a Pink and Teal sticker set, but it didn't stick! It was as if they were old and had lost their sticky, but they can't be that old? This frame is one of the example pictures on the Spooky website. The guy who sold it to me (a friend of Mickey's) sent me pictures and I was like, do you have any shots of the actual frame? I had seen the shots before on the website, and he said Mickey must have used his shots! Love it.

The stickers I do have on there were O.G. that I got when I visited Mickey this past spring. In fact, here are some shots of his old workshop (pretty sure they have moved into new digs recently).

Here is the test/ show bike Mickey had me ride with pimped out kit.

Here is Mickey's personal Darkside. I believe he said it has the original geometry where mine has the newer/updated geometry.

Don't like alot of modern bikes but your Spooky is very nice  and only one disc brake.... ( God... I hate disc brakes on singlespeeds... )
