Re:

Almost completely original. Had a new (bontrager) back wheel at some point.

quite a lot of paint loss on chainstay and needs new decals , but promsing.

It even has the chain device in place which is very unusual!

Gave the bontrager a strip down, clean and rebuild.

Swapped the Avid Arch for some standard avid v's becauseh the looked horrible and swapped the slicks for some off road tyres.

Its come up pretty well after a clean up and new decals.

I thought I'd scored a cheap XTR front mech but it turns out to be bottom pull not top pull as described.

Still needs bar plugs - forgot to buy some at the bike shop yesterday.

Bike has some nice touches. It still has the anti chain suck plate, the front hub is a Chris King and it has the coolest top cap ever.

Although, ironically, Trek picked the wrong two for the stem itself.

Re:

No. It's true temper ox iii. Triple butted frameset, made by trek in Wisconsin.

It's the bike killed of bontrager - to mass market, not niche enough. But apparently someone at trek said the privateers were the best built and most expensive frames they made.

Bloody expensive bitd. 1700usd, compared to a high end stumpjumper for about 1200usd
