Maybe....

A friend is bringing me 2 bikes (or remains of) that they no longer want, the details are a bit hazy but one is a Trek, it is blue, the forks are black, there is a bit that says Fox (he thinks) on it, it has Magura rim brakes and it is over 10 years old (Maguras could mean pre '98 though). The other....?

I have said I will adopt them so I am looking forward to seeing what they are and whether either is worth saving. I will post a pictures!

Re:

Pictures later....but..

The Trekis a '98 Trek Y3 but with some nice upgraded kit. May just strip it.

But it came with most of a Giant NRS3 which I think I will do something with because it looks quite nice. My friend thinks he has the wheels for it somewhere too.

Re:

The Y is too far gone and probably not worth saving anyway. But some nice parts to take off, XT derailleurs, X-lite G-force bars, nice wheels, Sugino chainset, Magura brakes and Maxxis tyres.

The Giant ! might do something with though. It needs a gear hanger, BB bearing, seat post and saddle but otherwise I think I have most of what I need. 1 Brake feels stiff, as do the forks. It will be a slow burner, but a cheap toe in the full suspension water ....

Re:

Y no love for the Trek "Y"? Looks almost complete except for Seatpost and saddle?

Both could be decent bikes though.

Re:

The Indy LT forks are kaput on the Y and I don't have anything handy to replace them. I won't bin it, I will hang it up for later I think, but yes otherwise only needs a saddle.

Re:

The Y3 was a bit too far gone, so is now stripped. Some parts have gone on or will go on the Giant. The Giant is cleaner and now stripped of anything that was broken!
Waiting for a new gear hanger to replace the broken one, this has a red bolt, so will add more random red ano bolts to match the bars as it is all a bit monochrome otherwise!

May have to lose the yellow stickers off the rims tho'......

Re:

Saddle and post fitted now, looking more bike shaped.

I do like an SDG Bel Air.
This is a no budget build, not a weight-weenie build but I put on the spring balance anyway...under 12kg at the moment but still need to fit cranks, pedals and chain, still it shouldn't be too lardy.
The jury is still out on the red X-lite bars, the black ones may yet go back on.

Re:

The NRS suspension design should mean it's a great all-rounder. Doesn't look like it'll be too long before it'll be out on the trails.

Re:

New cranks fitted. M570 LX. I was planning to polish these but like the colour so won't be doing that after all. Reused the original Deore outer and added some FSA Self extracting bolts. Flats maybe temporary, handy for test riding, but may put some spds on later.

The red handledars are coming off though, I'll but the original black ones on.

Re:

These were really intended for Recycled Carrera....

,,,,,,but I had to try them on.....

Slack, but not by modern standards, and it rides ok so they may stay where they are for a bit!
