Foes XCT 5

Geoff Capes
Here's my second attempt a building a Foes XCT 5.

Earlier this year I picked up a black Foes XCT 5 in medium from ebay, the shock was in need of a service and I couldn't get either Foes or Balfa to answer emails or phone calls so I gave up and ended up buying a new frame from Japan. The black frame was also a bit too big for me and the forks were too short travel for the frame.

Here's the first incarnation:

Here's the new build finished for now, the new frame is a small (16") and works better for me.

I've managed to get a new Fox RP23 Kashima rear unit plus Foes adapter from the Foes distributor in Switzerland for a very good price.

Spec for now is

Foes XCT 5 - Curnutt XTD
Rock Shox Revelation 426 Dual Air
XTR M970 Crankset
XTR BB
XTR M970 Rear Mech
XT M770 Front Mech
XT M770 Shifters
XT M770 cassette
Hope Pro 2 hubs on Mavic X717 Rims
Hope Mini Brakeset
Hope seat clamp
Chris King headset
Thomson seatpost
Thomson 4x stem
Renthal Fatbar
Prologo Ti 1.4 saddle
Panaracer CG 2.25 Soft Condition AM tyres.

Rides a bit like a tank at the moment compared to my old Pace RC300 so i'd like to try and shed a bit more weight off it if possible by fitting the Fox RP23 and moving to 1x10 or 2x10 XTR gearing and possibly a lighter carbon tubeless wheelset and new forks (possibly DT Swiss).

Nice-I like the black first attempt too.
Don't see many if them but they look very nice. You'll have to let us know how it rides :)

I'm old  so many bikes around now I haven't herd off
Both look good tho,

Never heard of Foes? ... Their first bike (LTS) came out in '92/93 I think.

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with the bike, just needs a few tweaks.

Re:

Great looking bikes. Your auction went cheap I thought, though I guess servicing the shock would cost a bit.

New Fox shock arrived, rides so much nicer than the Curnutt and also a bit of a weight saving....very happy indeed.

Looks so much better with the Fox shock, very similar to a Santa Cruz. The Curnutt shock on its own looked like it was heavier than the RC300 frame!
