1998 GT STS Lobo DH

Dear all,

I think I really need this thread to get this build going. But better late than
never :mrgreen:

So first up is the frame. It an STS Lobo in very nice condition. I will soon
get a new bushings kit for the frame but I don't think that it is time to renew
them. They look very good to me.



It will get some "updated" components. That means 9-speed XTR and not
8-speed. Also, most of the components will be more or less NOS like the brakes
and the forks.

It took me quite a while to figure out how to mount the rear brake. Searched
for some pics, also found and interesting thread here:

Still have to get the air out of the system and the right cable length. This
was only for me to check the "how-to". Won't be any problem in the future
I guess. Also made a little video how the rear brake performs now. Still need
to see in in "action" on the fully assembled bike when the rear shock is used.

and hope components are some of my favourite components...
I'm very curious to see the finished bike ... it will be wonderful

I am in a little bit of a struggle. I tried to install
a BB-M950 with 116mm axis length, an MRP chainguide
with some XTR FC-M950 cranks (5-arm). The problem:

The big ring is touching the frame! So I need a different
bottom bracket. I was thinking of a DuraAce 7703 in 118.5mm,
that is a bit longer on the right side. If not, I have to go
with a different crankset and a different bottom bracket ..

Peaty ran the 950 so it should fit....

can you not wind the axle over toward the drive side by pushing the LHS Cup further into the frame?

How much is it touching? Could you use some chainring spacers to move the ring out slightly?

I I don't use any spacer or anything on the left
side it is touching the frame bolt (the big one above
the bottom bracket shell).

With spacer/lockring it works on the left side but
the 48T chainring is messing around with the chainstay
of the frame when I pull the cranks at about 40%-60%.

Unfotunately I only have older type Octalink bottom
brackets, no M952, only M950. There it is important
to tighten the bottom bracket just right, otherwise
it is not good. The M952 is a bit different here and
probably the solution to my problem. I want to try this
bottom bracket too:

The bottom bracket is on its way and then I shall try
it with the M952 crankset. If it doesn't work, I'll have
to go square taper with a Syncros Revolution.

Still need a nice CS-7700 (I'm thinking of 11-25T).

Already have a saddle, But maybe I'll change the
seatpost to a black Syncros. Also, still need a
handlebar and grips. I can almost see the finish
line
