BFE replacement...Stanton Slackline

Having tried (half heartedly) tried to sell my BFe I had pretty much decided that I was just gong to hang on to it but then a local chap emailed me to ask if I was interested in a frame swap.

So, I've ended up with a Stanton Slackline which is pretty similar to a BFe in the fact that it's a slack, steel hardtail but it's a bit bigger. I can just about eek out a decent pedalling position so I should be able to ride it more than my BFe which was pretty much a jump / muck about bike.

I pretty much swapped all my bits over from the BFe but made a few changes. First up, I picked up a pair of Z1 10th Anniversary forks from eBay fir not too much (couldn't resist having been after a pair for ages and Reanimation wouldn't sell me his ). I also swapped my Diabolus stem for the one on my other half's Chameleon because it didn't look right on the Stanton due to the thinner top tube. A larger 11-32 cassette was added to make it more rideable and I dug out my E13 chain guide to replace the Superstar one.

I've not ridden it yet due to the grim weather, but having hacked up and down the road on it it feels a bit lighter and more spritely than the BFe. The extra length makes cornering better d I can really lean it over.

The forks feel fantastic too, not as controlled as my Deville's on the Rune but very plush and smooth.

Hoping to get out on it sometime this week.

That looks brilliant. Been admiring them since I saw one in skipton a few years ago - much more appealing than a bfe in every way.

I was a bit unsure at first because the silver post it came with looked horrible and the Diabolus stem I had before looked funny because it was so huge. It certainly rides a bit better than the BFe which I quite liked but it was a bit of a tank.

The fork looks great! Always liked them forks, they come up from time to time but never look like they’ve been that well looked after!

I know what you mean about the grim weather though! I’ve pretty much given up trying to get out at the minute, pictures I keep seeing of pines looks like a muddy pond and im sick of cleaning my bike. Its hanging in the garage nice and clean and its staying there! I’ll just make do with my commute on the Ms Isle at the minute!

I think these have had a hardish life...they've got a few marks on then ethey ut the stanchions are mint and they feel pretty good. Bombers of this era were still highly regarded I guess and were the go to fork for harder riders.

I can't say that I'll be riding anytime soon. Having ridden loads over the winter, I've finally had enough. Spring can't cone soon enough for me. I can't take any more sgandit water!

Nice but personally I kind of preferred the Bfe, not sure if it's something to do with the brand.

Fair enough. I really like my BFe but it was so small / specialist that it didn't get ridden all that often. Because this is bigger and more of an all rounder I'm hoping that I'll use it more.

Cheers buddy. It's only though main triangle though, the rest is chromo. It's more than tHe BFe though which I think may have only been the down tube.
