Kona Explosif 1998 with Amp F4 fork...

1 - The cliche, 'all the parts I could never afford bitd' (circa 1992-1997)
2 - No Shimano
3 - No colour black

Target - 23lbs

So here we are:

Frame: 1998 Explosif Reynolds 853 18" - 2082gms £185 + £50 powdercoat

Fork: Amp F4 - 1446gms - £140

Headset: Chris King Turquoise - 99gms - £70
Stem: Syncros - 197gms £16 + £6 new decals
Grips: Home made leather jobs
Barends: None

Saddle: Giro Fi'zi:k Titanium, custom leather and paint - 331g - £12 + £6 leather

Brakes: Proshift - 216gms - £80
Brake Pads: no name heavy orange things - 160gms! £8
Brake Cables: iLinks - 75gms £40
Cantilever cable hangers: none
Brake Levers: Paul - 115gms - £70
Shifters: Campagnolo Record thumbies mounted on Velo Orange thumb mounts - 200g (estimate) £20
Front Derailleur: Paul - 110gms - £120
Rear Derailleur: Proshift - 179gms - £115
Derailleur Cables: iLinks - 75gms - £35
Cassette: SRAM PG 950 - 251gms - £20

Chainring bolts: Middleburn - 12gms
Bottom Bracket: Shimano UN52 Arrggh! - 293gms - £20 (Have a Hope Titanium - 174gms - with threaded RH cup)

Hubs: Middleburn (NOS) £120
Nipples: Nickel plated brass
Spokes: Sapim double butted - wheels 1656gms (Wheel build £70)
Tyres: Maxxis C-1106 Butterscotch 1200gms - £50
Tubes: Schwalbe XXLight presta - £12
Seatpost: Syncros - 260gms - £25 + £6 decals
Seatpost Binder: Kona - ~25gms - £12

= 23.23lbs and 1559 £'s

So, the Shimano bb is killing me just now but until I can afford a new cup from hope, it stays in. Decals are planned and should be printed/cut in the next week or so. Also still to service one of the amp pistons which was dry as hell upon removal.

I'll unfold the ups and downs of the story, including de-anodising cranks, upholstering seats, getting carried away, making mistakes etc etc., once I find more time and complete the build. :)

Donnie

Stunning! Love the determination to finish without Shimano.

I really like these frames. The details around the dropouts looks great up close.
