1999 Marin Alpine Trail

Retro Newbie
The excitement got the better of me and I've been out this evening to collect the 21" Marin Alpine Trail that was up on eBay...

Few ideas about things I'd like to do to it, but it's generally pretty straight and clean...

I was wondering if anyone had a catalogue scan of the bike...looking through the Marin 1999 catalogue http://www.retromtb.pl/pdf/marin99.pdf, I can't see it...

Will get some pictures up in the morning!

Welcome mate - not too familiar with Alpine Trail myself...

Pics and/or the Ebay link might help..

Or post the serial number (stamped underneath the BB) and someone will be able to date it for you and maybe advise further... (or search for Marin Serial numbers - there's a guide on here somewhere!)

I think that might be a 1998 - see here:

http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/Bike ... &Type=bike

Best way to tell for sure is the serial number - it'll be stamped under the bottom bracket - post up the number and I'll have a look for you.... not seen a '98 catalogue online yet I'm afraid... (I'd be interested to see a '98 catalogue for the Mount Vision and Mount Vision Pro!)

So far, my searches have got nothing :(

New old parts...all about the alloy swing arm!

That looks like a Rift Zone which I used to have.

Yep, that's what the spare frame is.

I wanted the alloy swing arm rather than the quite fragile looking steel version that's on the alpine trail.

After a good clean, degrease and re-oil on Saturday, it's looking quite presentable.

Wondering what to do next...the temptation to hoard a load of STX-RC bits and pop them on is strong...

Any suggestions?
