Kona Fire Mountain 1998

Spotted on Gumtree yesterday morning, quick call into work explaining I would be slightly later and £40 lighter. The ad suggested TLC needed, however it was no more than an introduction to the track pump and a few wet wipes before a eager spin through the woods.
Its all standard 1998 apart from the rear mech (deore) I would like to change the Tektro breaks and shifters (on the cheap and age sensitive) what would you all suggest?

Re:

I just bought the same model and year mountain bike, it's in great shape and rides like a champ for it's age.

Re:

Its fairly low end kona so i wouldnt throw xtr at it but maybe some XT kit? Brakes and gears at least. I think the frame is in the region of 4.8ibs so not bad for a steel frame, I reckon you should get some kona project twos, an all steel kona ive heard rides really well. Cant see any pictures but im guessing it has a rockshox indy?
