Nothing too special here, but I just completed this little project today and I'm quite pleased with the result. Had a lot of fun thinking it through and putting it together too.

The background to this bike is that I had a rather nice Kinesis Maxlight Easton Ultralite frame, Hope wheelset and new Panaracer Paselas doing nothing in the garage so decided to work on a lightweight(ish) and low-budget drop-bar road build. I've paid somewhere in the region of £100-£120 in total for the rest of the parts, plus occasionally raiding the spares drawer. I don't have a real road bike and have never really ridden them much - to me it rides really nicely and weighs in at a shade under 9kg without pedals.

If anyone's planning a similar kind of build I'm happy to talk through resolving some of the compatibility issues that come up in this sort of project. Interested to hear any comments!

Current spec as follows (though I'm always looking to improve the parts and shed a bit of weight...)

Kinesis Maxlight Easton Ultralite 7005
Mosso Triple Butted Alu 7005 fork
Hope headset
Hope Lightweight and Hope Sport (?) Mavic X517 front and rear
Panaracer Pasela TG Kevlar
39/50 chainset
RPM 68 x 118
SRAM PG850 8-Speed road cassette
Tektro RX 1.0 Mini V-brakes + travel agents
Sora ST3300 STI
Ultegra 6500 rear mech
Bontrager Comp Aluminium seatpost
WTB Shadow V SLT Ti saddle
PRO XL stem 100mm
3T Prima 199 bar
Easton bar tape

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as I've been blinging up the Maxlight road conversion project recently. Still not quite got the gears perfect, but getting there. Weight is down to under 8.5kg which I'm pretty pleased with - there's a good 600-700g that could be quite easily shed too. The spec is now:

Kinesis Maxlight Easton Ultralite 7005
Mosso Triple Butted Alu 7005 fork
Hope headset
American Classic & SunRingle EQ21 front
Hope XC & Mavic X517 front and rear
Panaracer Pasela TG Kevlar 1.25"
Exustar PM25 pedals
Dura Ace FC-7410 39/53
XT UN72 BB 68 x 122
Ultegra ST-6510 STI
Dura Ace 7800 rear mech
105 front mech with DMR Mech verter
SRAM PG950 11-26 cassette
KMC X9SL chain
Tektro RX 1.0 Mini V-brakes + travel agents
USE Alien seatpost
WTB Shadow V SLT Ti saddle
PRO XL stem 100mm
3T Prima 199 bar
Easton bar tape
KCNC gold bar plugs, seat clamp, headset spacer, bolts
J&L Superlight Titanium gold skewers (32g/pr)
