The £35 Marin Hawk Hill 2000 Finished pic

Hi Everyone

Saw this advertised on my local Facebook pages, I thought for £35 whats not to like, especially a nice aluminium frame and a WTB headset :xmas-big-grin:. The pictures are as I picked it up, it will be pimped slightly with parts from my parts bin :facepalm:

First job was to remove the 'rock' erm I mean saddle, would have been more comfortable to put a lump of concrete on it :facepalm:
The forks are adequate, are the brakes, levers, shifters, bars, seatpost, wheels (Ritchey rock front rim and suspension front hub SS spokes, rear has a Mach rim and alloy hub but rustless spokes???). I personally love the Acor stem reminds me of early stems with a 3 bolt pattern on top.

Parts I am going to fit are:

Charge spoon saddle 'Denim' (New)
Non QR post clamp
Blackspire blue outer ring (New)
Vuelta alloy middle ring
City tyres
XT Rear mech
Alloy pedals
Blue Oury grips (New)

Had the same saddle on a gary fisher i bought back in the day (red not blue) never did find the comfort zone - no give or flex in it at all.

I’m doing a bit of a refurb on one of these at the moment. It’s an old bike of mine, my dad used it to get around his farm for a long time after I’d moved to a new bike. Totally knackered the chainrings, bucked the wheels, luckily not the frame. I’ve sourced new wheels (Ritchey Sport), an 11-34 8-speed cassette and now just need the new chainring/cranks.

I had it as far as this after a cleanup and fitting new rubber and actually rode it around the garden a couple of times before I realized the chainrings were totally gone and had to start to dismantle again.

If you are not too fussy about mixing parts there is a whole chainset in here for £16

Unfortunately it seems like that one's sold. I've bought an FSA Alphadrive crankset for £15 that has the right square BB and 42/32/24 tooth triple chainring setup. So that should work. A few more components came in today. Full brake and gear cable kit and a few extra silicone donuts to protect the frame (like that's not already knackered!).
