TheBear's RC200F8 2004 build thread (now with frame pics)

Evening gents,

So today I was lucky enough to secure a brand-new 2004-produced RC200 frame completely unbuilt and untouched, a bike I have lusted after since I was in my late-teens and I have fond memories of seeing both an RC100 and 200 all built-up and tricked-out in the window of Neil Ross Specialist Cycles in Aberdeen (Pace Status One dealer) and used to detour past the shop just to stare wistfully at it. Now pushing 40yrs old I have decided to take the plunge and build this beast up sympathetically where possible using a mixture of older and newer retro trick-parts.

As I have been out of the game for a long while, I will no doubt have loads of annyoing questions so apologies for that in advance. So now the long hunt starts for the right parts for the build, so if anyone has some suitable bits they are looking to move on (NOS as much as possible or in very good condition, all the usual suspects here e.g. XTR, Hope, Syncros, X Lite, White Industries, Cook Bros, Royce, Middleburn, USE etc. etc.), please let me know.

As far as forks go, ideally I would like to keep to Pace forks and as modern as possible with remote-adjustment but I need to know the correct length of steerer tube/size etc. and also what is the maximum travel fork I can fit (ideally around 100mm), and therefore if the likes of the RC38 Airforce II's or RC36 ProClass II LO-equipped would be better and then I can start hunting for these as they are one of the most important parts of the build.

Cheers folks, really looking forwards to this !

Morning folks, looking for some advice on disc-brakes, believe it or not have never had disc-brakes, they weren't even out at the time I had finished racing lol.

I am hoping to go for Hope Mini disc-brakes, so can someone advise which model of Mini disc brakes I need to look for which would be able to fit and be compatible with a set of X317 wheels fitted with Hope sport hubs (the ones with the lock ring spider) and 5-bolt Hope discs.

Cheers

PS. Hoping to have wheels/hubs, stem, bars, seatpost, chainset, brakes and shifters sorted by the end of the weekend

Hmmmn.....so bars might be a bit of an issue. With being restricted to running 25.4mm clamp bars due to the stem I have purchased, such bars would appear to be imposible to find !

So if anyone knows where to find a set of 25.4mm clamp XC riser bars in alloy (or preferably carbon) please let me know !

Re:

Bars won’t be a issue mate. There’s literally thousands out there. What brand takes your fancy? There are sellers on here I’m sure have what you need.

In terms of brakes , I’m sure people will be along soon to confirm but it’s not so much the wheels and discs being compatible it’s more about which number Hope calliper fits your frame and fork.

I have checked the usual suspects, the likes of Wiggle, Evans, Merlin, Chain Reaction etc and they are all 31.4 or 35mm bars, looking for some Ritchey/Easton/USE or similar carbon XC riser bars.

Re:

Brakes are the same as current ones buddy with relation to size. I have hope minis on my f8 and it used to have slx ones on. Plenty of club roost, xlite, answer ones turn up here and on eBay.would be shame to fit oversize ones on to it
