Def worth checking against your 91 Team Marin, the geometry changed a bit between the 'Avalanches and lower range GTs (a bit like the differences between a Team Marin and lower range ones).

BUMP - Page from the '91 GT brochure added, I quote, "It would be impossible to find a better production mountain bike than the 1991 GT Team Avalanche"!
