I’ve been ordered to have a big clearout before I’m allowed to start another bike build project :-X
So it is with great regret that I’ve decided to get rid of this little beauty my Rock Lobster Expert that I’ve had since purchasing new from Merlin in 1993 for just short of £1k and raced it in the British Champs XC & DH Eastnor (won by the late great Jason McRoy RIP) It also escorted me along the Nile and Sahara for 8 days through Egypt for Mencap in 1996.
I’ve only been holding onto it for sentimental reasons but need the space now.
The frame is in solid decent condition for an 19yo. Size 17” C to C (19" to seatclamp) toptube 22" Alu Kenesis tubing with a few blemishes but no dings or cracks.
Forks are the lightest Rock Shox ever made (so I've been told), Indy SL’s with titanium bits (somewhere!) only 2.2lb which also makes them the flexy-est fork they ever made. Supposedly 100mm of elastomer travel in reality your lucky to get 60mm if warm or 30mm if its cold outside (can't help being honest)
Now the best thing on it are the wheels. Handbuilt by Merlin using LX hubs and Ritchey Pro rims, the front wheel has been laced in a snowflake pattern and has never needed truing, very strong but light. Obviously the brakes are crap as they are rim V brakes coupled with a flexy fork,
on the plus side the crapness makes you a react better downhill!
Gears are 3 x 8 speed but to be honest the front shifter is worn so it is sometimes difficult to engage the big ring. All bits are Shimano STXrc. Stem Bars saddle are all Ritchey.
No pedals I'm afraid
edit: oh btw, tyres are Panaracer Fire XC front & WTB Exiwolf DNA triple compound rear, both with loads of tread.
I realise it’s not worth much but would be looking for @ £120 collected or courier at cost, PP accepted.
