Well here we have Yin and Yang - ratty purple caps but fine hex heads and threads, and then a perfect pair of silver ones.
Purple ones were on a bike that did many many miles in the ‘90s and early 2000’s, so grass took its toll on the anodising - alloy caps on the threaded end rather embarrassing....
However....Silver ones 9/10
Both of these were bought by me when they first were released - I got some of the first batch in the country. They both are mechanically 10/10 and always looked after very carefully, never over-tightened. Threads perfect on both axle and end caps.
Note these always need to be installed with plenty of copper-based anti-seize, other wise you get Ti galling on the alloy and firstly you can’t get them tight, and secondly it stresses both axle and ends. With copper grease on, you do them up until they grip, then a quarter turn and bob’s your lobster.
People ask silly prices for these - 55.00 recently. Grief. So 20.00 for the purple pair and 40.00 for the silver pair. Posted.
I’d be hanging on to these if our current bikes had 135 QR dropouts but the world of axles has gone to another planet these days with 15mm 110 boost, 142 12mm and 148 12 mm boost.
