No it hasn't it is a standard headset (whatever GT used back in 92). What they did though was used a double ended quill ( it has a wedge on both ends) that is completely separate to the stem.
In essence this means you could replace the headset with an aheadset... ditch the quill and use the stem and a star-fangled nut in the steerer to load the aheadset bearings.
