[*]DBR Axis Team Titanium frame - 18"

1995
18" C-C seat tube
19" C-T seat tube
22 1/2" C-C top tube actual
27.0mm seat post
1 1/8" head tube, 115mm long
68mm bb shell
Very light ~1550g from memory.

My bike for a long time, previously Wadsy's. I've had lots of fun on this, then it cracked :( I had it welded by Enigma and had a few more years of fun, racing at Mayhem, Big Dog, Gorrick events etc. But it has cracked again in the same place. :( I have bought myself something else to ride so this has to go to a new home. It WILL need to be repaired before it get used again, you'll need to make your own enquiries to a ti specialist what is required.

Included: frame, seat collar, new decal set (Gil M), canti mounts.

Unsure how to price this, due to the crack, but say £140 + postage.

Re: DBR Axis Team Titanium Frame

That's a real shame. I loved your build. If you fancy selling the decals, I've a spare one of these frames without any.

Glws.

Re:

Me too, it rides well. I had Fox F80 RLC fitted initially then Pace MXCD. With Fox forks it was stunning to ride, possibly better than a Kona

...and I thought ti-frames were indestructible. Now I know better.

Re:

iirc thats a Sandvik welded frame. They were industry experts in Ti welding bitd and would have used Argon gas purging welding this. I think its not likely to be a 'poor weld'. Maybe a previous owner/s did a lot of jumps on it, Bike Parks, pump tracks, things and that these bikes were not made for. Hey it rode so well it got used really hard and enjoyed. Just my theory

Send it back to Enigma, then just use it for light CX duty.

Ripped the following from a Ti welding expert.

Welds are subject to relatively high levels of shrinkage stress due to the fact that one type of molten metal is being poured (literally) into two pieces of solid metal creating a bond between the two pieces of solid metal which are basically at room temperature. Welding creates large grains in the metal structure which can be affected by solidification stress. This stress can cause grain boundaries to open up resulting in cracks if the stress is high enough to propagate through many grain boundaries. Most surface fissures are small enough that the solidification stress is not enough to make them open enough to be considered defective. Over time, fatigue may cause these to open up and propagate as well as impact loads that may be encountered from jumping, crashing or other events that the designer could not plan for. Since bicycle frames are built to be as light as possible, the safety factor in design is always pushed to the limit.

Re:

A good friend works at Enigma and given their reputation I'd still say send it back to them again to weld it. It lasted 6? Years of use with a repair so it did well!
I've always wanted one of these but having just bit the bullet on a team rts frame I can't go for it

Great frame and an easy out of sight repair is possible ;)

Re:

Nice frame, seen it raced a few times.

Would have had it myself, were it big enough.

Edit;

But when has that stopped me! Thought I'd add that, before someone else did.
