SOLD - 1990 KONA LAVA DOME - SPLATTER PAINT. 19"

For sale is my 1990 Kona Lava Dome Splatter Paint MTB.

Frame number: F 9086324.

Top tube = 22.75" measured centre to centre.

Seat tube = 17" centre to centre.

Head tube = 6.5".

Set up for me as seen in the pictures and I'm 5 feet 8 with a 30" leg. 5 feet 10" would be max I reckon.

Mavic M231 CD 32h rims with stainless steel DB eyelets. Suntour hubs. The rear has had new bearings.

New FSA bottom bracket as the old one was gone.

New head set bearings.

New Jag wire inner and outer cables throughout.

Michelin 26 x 2.1 tyres with new tubes.

New 7 speed free wheel.

Enigma triple chain set.

Shimano XT light action shifters.

Shimano Deore LX cantis with new pads.

Brand new San Marco saddle.

Suntour XC Pro MD front and rear mechs.

Original stem and bars.

Great to ride and very smooth. It's surprisingly quick as well.

I cannot find a single dent on the frame. There are a couple of very small stone chips.

I would prefer it to be collected from the GL2 area of Gloucester.

I would very reluctantly post to standard UK post codes at cost which would be an additional £30.

£175 O.N.O

Already had quite a few pennies spent on it to make it ready to go. £60

More photos available on request. Please bear with me though as I'm back to work in the morning and work 12 hour shifts.

Re: 1990 KONA LAVA DOME - SPLATTER PAINT. 16.5"

Just so you know, that's the standard splatter paint so I'll stick my neck out and say the chances of Paul having anything to do with it is minimal. If the stories are true, it was more likely Dr Dew or Joe!!

In other words it's a standard 1990 Lava Dome, 20" or thereabouts.

Kona said it was the worst bike they ever made. Which seems unfair in the grand scheme of things ;-)

Well on that rousing endorsement, I'll keep the listing running.

I thought the paint design was attributed. You know more than me.

I've ridden quite a few of these Konas' from this era and it rides as well as any of them.

Re:

I think Splatter Paints entry on my other thread re the price makes much better reading. He speaks from experience of these whereas I don't

Red, white and mustard splatter are all 1990. Serial numbers start F90 possibly F89.

The 1990 geometry is WAY better than 1989. Having raced both models solo for 24 hours (and placed in the top quarter of the field) I can say that with experience. :D

I have a 16" and it definitely doesn't look like that.

Meaning? It may be nearer to 17" having re-measured the down tube.
That's measured from the centre of the BB to the centre of the top tube.

Going by his measurements it's roughly a 21inch frame..

Thank you very much for your comments and the brochure was a real treat.

Going off the info in that, I bow to your superior knowledge. I'm pretty sure it's a 19" and I have changed the listing to reflect this.
