Bump for a pretty decent home cinema system

The first to pop round with £250 gets a Pioneer VSX-922 (six HDMI inputs!) receiver, B&W 603 S2 floor standers, Mordant Short Vector subwoofer/ centre and surround speakers.

Needs collecting though as there will be around 100kg of stuff!

Question time:

An "friend of a friend" started to hook up his old stereo system today, which has been stored for a few years. Normal Technics separates system with SLD21 turntable.

CD and tuner play ok but volume is lower than expected. When vinyl is played, volume is extremely low (yes it is connected through phono stage)

Any obvious ideas about the fault?

:?:

is there a graphic equalizer? sometimes the pre-amp is split from the power amp sections and fed through the graphic. if the switches are dirty this will cause the volume to hiccup

Without seeing it then, switches could be dirty, leads could have a bad connection, string could be long or short

Its not a moving coil cartridge is it? You might need a phono amp to boost it a bit if it is.

Any suggestions for a cheap phono stage for my old moving magnet turntable?
