WTD : Thinkpad T61, T400, T410 or T420 laptop

Long shot but worth a go. The screen has broken on my laptop (i.e. the one which I use for this site!). Fortunately I fixed this. Unfortunately I've managed to sh@g the motherboard in the process and as such need a new machine.

Ideally after one of the above. What you got

What model is broken John? we have a load of knackered laptops in the office if you could salvage any parts.

@Iwish - thanks for the offer but I really need a PC and ideally a thinkpad of the type listed above.

@TheKen - That is very good of you. It's a Lenovo T61. Motherboard is (mostly) knackered. Anything similar might work, T61, R61, T60, R60.

No luck john, we have a few broken HP's but not lenovos, Our IT guy says you have to get an exact match right down to the model number in order to swap them as there is so little tolerance and any difference in connectors will mean they won't fit.

our IT guy said expect to pay upto £135 for a second hand working motherboard. You might get luckier buying a whole one with a broken screen though

thanks a lot for looking.

There is some latitude when swapping Thinkpad motherboards but you do need to have a fairly good match.

Think I may have to retire the old T61 and get a new one...

I have just bought a refurbished T61 off eBay with Windows 7 and docking station for £175. There are plenty on there.

Great machines.
