My wife needs something to sit on the sofa and browse the web with via wifi.

What have you got or can you recommend? Must be <£80.

Are those low cost android tablets any good on ebay for example?

Low cost android tablets are crap. I was looking into them for something to give the kids a while back and once you dig into the weeds, theyre crap. No if's or buts.
I can recommend the Dell Mini 8 or 10 web books.. basically mini lappys with no CD drive. I run a Dell Laptop but the daughters have the 8 and the 10. number refers to screen size. They run fine and manage facebook and facebook games fine, run youtube vids fine and come wireless capable. I picked one up on contract with yodafone and the other bought secondhand for 60 quid from a Cash convertors shop

Mrs Optix got one of these for Christmas (from me) and it's bloody good with a new ROM. Over budget though.

S/H netbook will be better VFM at the price you want to pay.
