I was given an old separates system last week, it came with the below uber retro Akai CS-34D. As retrotabulous as they come, top loading, two VU needle indicators, mmmmmm tasteful laminate surround.
No idea if it works or not as I don't have any tapes. Freebie to pass the karma on if anyone wants it. First chance goes to those that can collect at Mayhem or the IOW ride. I'll consider posting (at cost) otherwise. By all means send me a tape and I'll see if it works.
