Hey guys, give me your thoughts on a stiuation...

Im not going to give any user names unless this goes bad.

I purchased an item from the forums here, the member has 2 positive feedbacks.

The purchase was 45 days ago, I'm in the united states and I still haven't received it. He said he would ship it economy with insurance.

He has been very good with communication, bad can't give me a tracking number, or any type of confirmation that it has been shipped. He says economy isn't trackable, but I would think if you insured it, they would give you some type of proof that the item has atleast been shipped.

Anyway, I opened a paypal dispute today, only because you have to do it within 45 days of the payment, if I hadn't done it today, I would have had no recourse.

Was I wrong for doing this?

Thanks

No, you're covering yourself. As you rightly say Paypal disputes have a window, the seller should understand that.

If the item was posted from the UK he would need to have a 'proof of postage' (i.e. a receipt) to get any cover (the maximum being £39). The cheapest UK overseas postage is Surface Mail which can take up to 12 weeks to arrive!
