Let's see some team burners. Was never massively into bmx although i had (and still do have) a burner stashed at my folks somewhere. I did however hanker after a team burner as I'm sure most of my age did at some point...

Team Burner, nah, go for the Extra Burner. I only ever saw one on the streets and my mate had it. Red and white with white Z-rims :D

My mate had an Aero/ Team Burner. Sorry - I can't rememer the correct name
It was chrome & black with Araya Aero rims, Kashimax Aero saddle etc. etc.
Copper, black & silver decals IIRC?

It was the second version of the "top of the range" bike - A year or 2 after the first version "Pro Burner" (the chrome & blue one with round frame tubes that had the frame gussets with the "R" shaped sut-outs.).

Mine was a lowly Mk1 silver & blue Ultra Burner.
Amazing spec for the £185 it cost. Took me MONTHS of paper deliveries to save the money.

That's technically not the team burner. It's the team replica ,type thing.
It was a basic burner painted up in the team colours with ,i believe ,simplex mag wheels.
The true 'team Burner' was made by tange in Japan and shipped over.Raleigh just stickered em up,hence no head badge.Dia-compe ,skyways etc. They were a much much better bike than any other burner with 'proper' geometry ,unlike regular burners that had no geometry. At all.
To confuse matters further ,'actual 'team burners ,ie ridden by the team were different again .Handmade at RSP in ilkeston.
My mate rode for Raleigh.
Jon lee .Where are they now ?
He ended up doing me a deal on my team burner after he let his RSP one go.I found mine complete 100% in a skip and restored it.
It was very nice in the end.
here's Tony law ,another old buddy ,posing on it at the inaugural Alan's old school BMX national in '01 ,before Jon got it.Craig Scofield in the background, who signed the plate.

Very cool. Nicer than the one behind with black OGK's (isnt that one not a proper team burner but a series 2 burner in team colours?)

Author:  hondadominator [ Wed Jan 07, 2009 10:22 am ]
Post subject:

The one behind is a MK 2 Burner in Team colours. Raleigh made 3 different types of Team Burner The Aero Pro Team, the Mk 2 Team and the Andy Ruffell replica. I think they may have made a Team mini as well at some point.

Have they done a repro Mk 1 Ultra yet?

Author:  hondadominator [ Thu Jan 08, 2009 10:14 am ]
Post subject:

No I think they've finished with their Retro series now.

The Mag Burners never sold very well in the same way the Team and Super Tuff did. Bad choice of model I think, they should have done an Extra Burner.

Hi all - the bike with the black OJK's is mine - Simon there has a TAP - mine is a AR

TAP = team aero pro ( tange frame - better and lighter - skyways - tange forks - kashimax seat )

AR = Andy Ruffell team burner - standard burner mk2 frame - aeroayal seat ~ i changed over to mags for the London ride - and seat post was just to be comfortable and length )

TS = Team styler - twin tubes on the bars ( last of the Raleigh bmx's to be made ~ mk1 - mk2 burners and styler range )

i changed my mags back to spokes and bars over to cw copys - still need a better seat post

Are there any of the RSP built team burners around?

Not sure they made the Reynolds frames in Team Colours as those colours were introduced at the same time as the Tange framed bikes so they used them instead.

So did the team race reynolds frames in a different livery to the standard 'Team Colours'? Who welded up the Tange frames?

I know Craig Schofield had a Blue factory spec Reynolds frame that the team used. He still has it and brought it to a Burner Bash once.

The Tange frames were made by Tange in Japan and were of a similar spec to the Kuwahara Laserlite. However there are some Team Frames out there that were also made by Kouzumi and are identical to the Tange frames in every way except the serial number position. These frames have the serial numbers on the rear right dropout, where as the Tange frame have them on the BB shell.

there was also PRO Burner 82'/83' which was made with different frame geometry and the USA Ramper R11XL made with reynolds tubing - both a lot lighter and the PRO was raced by scoffield

Raleigh America parts - RAMPER - which is Raleighs US side

the answer is yes, but ! the paint work needs to be very good and not needed to be done again - Tange and koisumi frame are from Japan and have a different geometry to standard burners and rides like a 18yrd collage girl and not a drunk bored house wife

they can be made very nice and ride sweet - just a shame you can't get some money back on the parts that are mtb

i have a chrome aero pro that needs sorting and finishing

they can go for £500 -£600+ for a original or mint made 8)
