Oh dear, yet another online place to spend far too much time. . . .
Happened across your forum doing a Google search for info on some handlebars I'd bought on ebay. I'm not exactly a retro addict, just someone who got serious about cycling in the late 80s and doesn't change kit for the sake of it. So I'm still wearing out bikes with 1inch steerers, 8sp cassettes and looking for 20 or even 18mm tyres. And I wish there were some 26.4mm Ahead stems so I could keep using my Cinelli 65s.

Hi!

Just got myself a 'retro' bike, although struggling to ID it.

Hi guys I'm a bit of a newbie to bikes, always been in to retro cars but as the weather is nicer I thought I'd get a retro bike and cycle to work.

I do have a 1990s Peugeot Richard Virenque rep that I've had for years but it needs a large number of repairs so it was cheaper to buy a new bike!

So here she is, my Falcon Olympic:

Seems to be pretty original (other than the saddle) with weinmann brakes and shimano groupset (so presumably she's from the 80's??)

Visually she looks pretty rough with stonechips, peeling stickers, rusty bits etc, but mechanically everything is 100% spot on, so I'll be using her daily as a rolling resto I think.

I'm really quite keen to learn more about these bikes so if anyone knows anything about them, or could help me date it, I'd be really grateful!

Also, I think I got a bargain on this so I'd be interested to hear what you lot reckon it's worth...

Cheers

Mike

Hi everyone!

i'm new on the forum.

I'm from Belgium and really don't know all that much about bikes to be honest with you guys. i had to get hip surgery last year so since running and playing soccer is out of the picture I'm going to start riding bikes to stay fit.

i tought i might as well do it in style and go for a retro bike so i'm hoping to learn a bit about retro bikes here and have a good time.

Hallo,

My name is david, I am from Austria.

I love vintage roadbikes, specially rare bikes from the 90`s.

I studied product design, now I am an art teacher.

special frame designs and carbon monocoque frames are my interesst.

bikes are more than know how and tecnology, its more about design, ideas, spirit, innovation and kommunication.

my bikes: zipp 3001, Look KG 196, Scarpa Titanium, C4 Carbon fibre (C-4 Bianchi Project 1986), ... Hotta TT700 is my current project.

great that there is a place where all vintag bike lovers are all together.

let me see your very special bikes and frames, looking foreward to that.

Hello, I am John in Toronto. I've been collecting road bikes for awhile now, my two favourites are my 1987 De Rosa Professional and an early '90s Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra that used to be Olaf Ludwig's when he raced with Telekom.

I've been lurking for some time now but think it's time to come into the open....
My name's Neal and I live in Northern California. I grew up in Scotland and have lived in Holland and England before ending up here. I have too many bikes (So my wife says.....). I worked in a bike shop from 1986 - 1991 and have lost count of the number of bikes I'v had.

Right now I have a Conago C 50, Specialized S-Works E5, Specialized S-Work HT MTB and my retro collection of Concorde Squadra, Joe Waugh 531 and unknown Gitane (Thought to be Team Pro?). I ended up here by chance via Google and love the site. It's great to see all of these lightweight's from the 80"s and 90"s but there must be shedloads (literally) sitting in garages and garden sheds that need to be rescued(and not turned into fixed wheel nightmares!).

When I get the chance I'll post some pics in readers rides....

Welcome

'87 Squadra - Cool, that sounds a bit like the one I have. Don't hesitate to put it up in the forums :)
