Nice Champion Mondial. It is an AA-Special, but I guess you already knew that.

That refinishing looks very accurate to me, both paint in 'Brussels blauw' and decals

BB: Cinelli or ROTO?

Cinelli

ROTO (optionally available in 'open' edition)

Lugs: Bocama short or longpoints?

Thank you for the information,to be honest i'm not that familiar with the gazelle.but i bought this because i was attracted to it.
after seeing them on classicrendezvous,i had to own one.
the bb is definitely cinelli as in your reference
i think they are the spearpoint lugs, maybe these photos will show.
i was not aware that this was an AA-special,were these top end frames!!

The AA-Special was one of the top off the line frames in the Gazelle Champion Mondial line up. There were more, like the criterium frame AA-Super, the 753, the Time Trial, the Track, the aerodynamic model ...among others.

For as far I can see it from the pic I spot a Bocama Professional short point lug. This combined with the info on the shell means the frame is little later than those I own(ed): Maybe '84 or so. Serial# will unveil more. Your frame is in fact similar to this one covered on Gazelle Pages >>> http://www.fivenineclimber.com/bikes/ga ... lloway.htm

Yes definitely bocama professional short-point lugs
I will get the serial number to get the year
this information is much appreciated
thanks

I recall the Paragon RT riding gazelles domestically in the 80's. However, i don't recall the chromed rear triangles. Perhaps what you have is a superior model to theirs.

New here, just found the site.
Likely to be bad news for the pocket tho' !

Does this frame have chrome rear end or the stainless, as I know Gazelle were using stainless , possibly late 1980s ?
Wife still has her Gazelle, used regularly during the summer, bought new in 1986 from Sid Ellis in Rotheram (?)

Gazelle

Hi
Thanks for your reply and interests
When i originally purchased this frame from a gentleman in Poland,it was in a sorry state. So i got it re-finished to it's original state.
The rear triangle was chromed but heavily pitted.
Now it's a real joy to ride, though only in the summer months.
It's really light and responsive
Regards Cipo (Malcolm)

Chromed. The stainless steel models you are referring to were the early nineties 731os-RVS, 653-RVS and Exception. They used Poppe & Pothoff Noblex for blades and stays.
