you shouldn't need one. I've never bothered. ther's far more leverage from a drop bar than a straight one in the stem...........

Guess you're right. But I would just hate snapping the front of my stem doing that...

No reason that would happen. The "worst" thing that would happen would be slippage of the bars under strain
