Bontrager CX

I was at a local cyclo-cross race (Easthampton, Massachusetts) and spotted a guy riding this in the masters race. Afterwards I spotted it resting against a tree. Absolutely gorgeous bike, the elusive Bontrager CX!

It seemed to have the Original CX steel fork, seat post, and ti seat. A Sycip stem, Dura Ace ders., more modern shifters, and modern Avid brakes. I was really excited to see this. Does anyone have any idea how many of these they made? I'd love to find one of these in my size one day! A true gem amongst many extremely high end bikes at the race.

No more info I'm afraid but very cool indeed, especially with the meat coloured tyres.

It's true, Bontrager hasn't made frames for many years. The information I was looking for was perhaps how many were made, the years of manufacture.

Wow, that bonty cyclo-cross bike is really cool

It looks like a later Steelman straight fork on it, as opposed to the earlier curved fork.

I found these sites helpful:

The earliest one I found was 1987, while the latest one was 1997. The earlier 80's versions were handbuilt by KB himself on a custom order basis, while later it was offered for production.

Hope this helps; thank for sharing, man :)

the "meat" coloured tyres are Tufo tubulars I think. Readily available anywhere. A very classy cross bike - I like the slim, simple lines and the straight steel fork looks great :p

got one.. best bike EVER.. just suits me, even tough its a small, and im 184cm
it has the steelman forks..got it in 2000, think its a 96`
(a few weeks later the importer i got it from burned to the grown, and all frames where lost)
have used 10-15 dif setups, heres one in road mode..
