Considering Benotto tape for a circa 86-88 bike, but I think that is a little late for Benotto tape. I think the tape itself would look good, but I do have to take period correctness into account with this bike.

Please shed a light on untill when Benotto tape lasted.

Greg LeMond won the 1990 Tour de France with shiny tape on his handlebars.

I was using it in the 70's and '80's - and still am!

I've got quite a collection, every time I see a roll of a different colour at a jumble I buy it!

And according to this page, it was available in bike shops as late as 1997 (at least in the US).

your bike would still be period correct, but bike ribbon was the in-thing at that time. Most racers had given up on benotto around 85.

Looking at photos in 1989 Cyclings and quite a few riders are still using it including pros.

I am considering Benotto tape for a early 80's bike as well, but what is a good place to buy it?

There is a lot of it available on eBay and that is where I have bought it the last couple of times.
