Urm brake bits help

Hi, nice forum...and i need some help please. I've got my dads old BSA folding bike, was rusted to hell in the shed but structurally sound. I've had it powder coated in cream and i'm working on metalic burgundy mudguards, she'll look lovely. Serviced the old sturmey archer gear, rechromed loads of bits however i need locating the following part for my brakes.

In short its a 'gromity' thing, i've lost one and the last one is dirty as hell so would like new bits. The part is needed to keep tension when you brake I've got some nice ferrels for the other end but dont know what this bit is called, any help sourcing really appreciated.

The gromity thing has a hole in it where the cable goes and the screw secures it to the cable right? Pretty much all brake cables I've seen come with a similar thing just cast onto the end of the cable so that would make the gromity thing redundant.

Are you looking for the part that goes over the end of the brake housing and slots into that groove in the brake level on the left of the second image? If so, it's called a ferrule. Visit a shop specialising in older or less-common bikes and parts. They will probably have a selection of old ferrules for you to look through. (Standard modern ones don't have that narrower part, so don't simply ask for a brake housing ferrule, or you will be given the wrong bit!)

Pigeon, I don't think it's the cable end because usually those are only for brakes that need two (drum brakes, generally...), and in those cases the set screw is on the side of the cylinder, not the end! But I could be wrong.

I'm not sure as I've never seen these things on bikes (road bikes don't tend to have drum brakes

) but years ago I had a moped that used these things on the brake cables, and the screw on them was positioned exactly like this one. You might be able to find the bit at a place that services mopeds, although they might be a different size..

its called a solder-less nipple, and most motor bike shops should do them.

The end of the ferule in the picture isnt a screw, its hollow so the cable can slot though
